Capacitive sensors are the right solution

At In2tec we are increasingly seeing more of a drive for customers requesting touchscreen interfaces, the change and evolution of technology such as smartphones are a big contributing factor to this. Most technology products that are used daily include some touchscreen capability, without having the knowledge of the industry most people don’t know that there are alternatives that give the same aesthetic while costing less.

Full touchscreens are expensive and difficult to produce but are great interfaces if you require the end-user to use the entire screen. However, if the end-user is only to use the interface for a few switches or buttons they aren’t the best solution.

This is where our capacitive switches come in, our design capabilities and extensive experience in capacitive switching mean we can offer bespoke interfaces with a high-tech ‘smartphone-style’ aesthetic. Secret-til-lit illumination means that the switches are only illuminated when they need to be, which allows for user-prompting switches. By using a black mask to create this effect, we don’t alter the black gloss appearance and allow for a sleek appearance.

For example, our steering wheel technology demonstrator incorporates our high-tech capacitive switches allowing the driver to perform functions within a finger stroke of their driving position, without overloading their visual environment. Secret-til-lit technology provides information in a smart way, by independently illuminating only the functions the driver needs to be aware of, or that require a decision.

Using capacitive switches instead of LCD screens allows us to incorporate other technologies such as haptic touch technologies. We embedded haptic touch technologies in our steering wheel technology demonstrator, along with capacitive touch, to provide the driver with physical feedback in response to their action.

We have also used our high-tech capacitive switch offering in our In2sense interfaces. Our In2sense can rival the aesthetics of a touchscreen but far more cost-effectively. By offering a black gloss front panel and secret-til-lit illumination, the interface can look like an LCD screen.

By offering bespoke design services, we can create a capacitive switching solution that is entirely unique to your application. From the illumination, shape, and size of the switches to the materials used, anything is possible.

In2tec has over 10 years of experience in capacitive switching meaning we can create complex interfaces, such as keyboards which can self-calibrate to reduce noise and remain waterproof. By starting with your end specification and working to create the electronic solution you need, you get the luxury of an LCD screen without the associated cost.

Our capabilities – driven by our design philosophy that “nothing is impossible”

At our core, everything we do is underpinned by the belief that “nothing is impossible”. To this end, we have developed a strength that allows us to bring together disparate and often conflicting design requirements, to provide systems and solutions that offer greater efficiency and better ergonomic design, through the breaking down of design and barriers and solving the most-challenging problems.

Moreover, our patented technology ‘ReUSE®’ provides material, models and process technology to deliver sustainable solutions that allow a truly circular economy and deliver a positive impact towards achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions. Using proprietary electronics design and manufacturing techniques along with patented ReUSE® conductive adhesives, inter-layer adhesives, printed inks and dielectrics, we can deliver printed circuit assemblies with 100% recyclability. This, together with ‘ReCYCLE™’ – In2tec’s patent-pending low-energy electronic component process and modules detachment process delivers fully reusable and undamaged components and materials for use in second-life, feeding the circular economy. ReUSE® and ReCYCLE™ can deliver 100 % material recycling of its printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). This contrasts sharply with typical PCBA material recycling of just 3-5 %.
