MOTOROLA / LONDON UNDERGROUND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM AND INTERFACE UNITS
Project
As part of a project for London Underground, Motorola needed to meet a stringent set of operating and environmental parameters for the design of a new train-based communications system. Optional units in the driver’s cab and station master’s base facility were to provide GPRS-sourced critical communications.
Our role was to design and develop a robust, standalone interface unit and train radio unit.
Solution
As a strategic supplier to Motorola and the development company APD Communications, we have always prided ourselves on providing unique and innovative solutions to complex problems.
In this project, the interface unit was designed for an extremely hostile environment. It was IP67-rated with a vandal attack capability, and cast aluminium casing and a high level of integrated sealing were fundamental.
Built in our Class 10,000 clean room facility in the UK, the unit was tested, flash programmed and delivered directly to Motorola and the London Underground rolling stock assembly factory.
‘In2tec’s ability to provide concept and design and then manufacture effectively was a significant aid in this complex project for London Underground.’
